(THREE RIVERS) – A Sturgis man was arrested after he tried to get away from police officers in a stolen vehicle over the weekend.
Three Rivers Police say they were informed of a stolen vehicle near U.S. 131 and Broadway Street on Saturday. Officers saw the vehicle pulling away from a hotel and tried to stop it. The driver, later identified as a 24 year old Sturgis woman would not pull over.
The vehicle drove through several business properties and then went north on U.S. 131. Police say they saw the passenger, 24 year old Brandon Goodfellow of Sturgis, switch places with the driver.
The car struck a tree on Sixth Avenue and came to a stop. Goodfellow got out and ran away, but was caught after a short chase. He was arrested for having several outstanding warrants. Police are also pursuing charges of possession of meth, fleeing and eluding, receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle and carrying a concealed weapon.
Goodfellow is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail with bond set at $50,000.
The woman was initially taken to Three Rivers Health with hip pain. She was later taken to a hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment of some possible internal injuries.
Police say the woman has five felony warrants against her. Additional charges will be sought.
