(THREE RIVERS) – Saturday's “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes” event was a success for Domestic And Sexual Abuse Services.
DASAS Executive Director Rose Ludwick says the annual event held in Lafayette Park in Three Rivers raised over $10,000 this year for the organization, which serves victims and their families in St. Joseph, Cass and Van Buren Counties.
Ludwick says Jamey Smith of Marcellus raised the most funds as an individual, which was $915. Light And Life Wesleyan Church of Three Rivers raised $100, the most in the group category.
Several men did wear high heels as a way to bring special attention to the subject of domestic violence and abuse. Ludwick says Ed Smith of Marcellus was named the MVP of the day. Phillip Wright of Kalamazoo was named the Twinkletoes Award winner, and Josh Nichlos of Three Rivers was given the award for Best Strut.
Other activities held during the event were an inflatable obstacle course, a hog roast and a cake walk.
This year, Ludwick says DASAS has assisted 998 individuals, of which 240 stayed in the Hillman House Shelter.
