Sturgis Resident Arrested For Stealing Vehicle

(CENTREVILLE) – A traffic stop led to the arrest of a Sturgis resident.

The St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department stopped a vehicle at
3:42 Sunday morning just outside the Village of Centreville for an equipment violation. During their interaction with the driver, deputies discovered the vehicle had been stolen from the St. Joseph County Fairgrounds.

Deputies made contact with the owner of the vehicle who was working at the fairgrounds. He told officers the doors to the vehicle were unlocked and the keys were left inside.

Deputies arrested the suspect, a 54 year old Sturgis resident, for unlawfully Driving Away An Automobile. Officers want to remind citizens to remove the keys and secure their vehicles when not driving them.
