(LAGRANGE) - The firestorm over treatment of animals at a farm near Howe is heating up again.

According to WSBT TV, the LaGrange County Sheriff's Office and the LaGrange County Prosecutor's Office have opened an investigation and could possibly be filing formal charges.

Shipshewana resident Allen Yoder says he received a message after people saw a horse at the farm located on State Road 9 south of Howe. Yoder went to the farm and saw an animal that was malnourished and had an injury to one of its legs. Yoder took several pictures and posted them to his Facebook page.

The Sheriff's Office and the Indiana Board of Animal Health went to the property, which is owned by Larry Myers, and removed the horse on Tuesday.

Other animal rights groups have also gotten involved. One flew a drone over the land that took video footage of several animals living in trash and junk-filled pens.

Sheriff's Office officials say they have received several complaints about animal welfare at that property over the last five years. The State Board has also investigated Myers and the property saying that the conditions of some animals were poor, although ample supply of feed was on the property and water is hauled in daily.
