Salisbury Responds To Recall Petition
By: Mike Stiles - Friday, November 15, 2019

(CONSTANTINE) – A member of the Constantine School Board has made a comment regarding a recall initiative against her.

WBET 1230 reached out to Syntia Salisbury on Thursday to see if she would like to comment about a recall petition that was filed by Marge Caid Wednesday morning.

On the recall petition, Caid says Salisbury violated a School Board policy of Board member ethics, which states that a school board member will avoid being placed in a position of conflict of interest and refrain from using their Board positions for personal partisan gain.

Caid says this happened during the October 21 Constantine School Board meeting, when Salisbury failed to recuse herself from a discussion on the contract of boys basketball coach Travis Walker, which was a violation of the policy. Caid also says Salisbury's family members made complaints about Walker to the Board during public comment times

In an e-mail response to WBET, Salisbury says there is a lot of misinformation out there and it truly breaks her heart to think that there are members in her community that feel she had personal partisan gain from this situation. Salisbury says she has nothing to gain by not having the same basketball coach at the helm for her son's senior year.

Salisbury says her hopes are that the clarity/factuality hearing will help clear some things up.

The County Election Commission will hold the hearing on November 25 at 2 PM to consider the recall language.
