(UNDATED) – Forecasters are predicting a wet weekend for the area, and are also saying we could see some flooding with the rain coming our way.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch from 7 PM Friday until 7 PM Saturday for St. Joseph, Branch, Cass and Hillsdale Counties in Michigan along with LaGrange, Noble, Elkhart, and Steuben Counties in Indiana.

Weather officials say rain will move into the area this evening. The rain will pick up in intensity Friday night into Saturday evening, with 1 to 2 inches of accumulation possible during that time alone.

Flooding of low lying areas and along small creeks and streams is likely. In addition, some significant river flooding is possible this weekend and could extend into next week.

If you live in areas that are prone to flooding, you should be prepared to take action should flooding develop. Monitor the forecasts and be alert for possible flood warning that could be issued.

Forecasters say by late Saturday afternoon and into the overnight hours, rain will mix with and turn into snow, sleet and freezing rain with little snow and ice accumulations.
