(FABIUS TOWNSHIP) – A mother and her child died in a house fire Tuesday morning in Fabius Township.

Michigan State Police were called to 12859 Harder Road. When they arrived, troopers observed the living room and garage fully engulfed in flames. Fire personnel from the Fabius-Park Township, Constantine and Three Rivers Fire Departments said three children were able to escape the house through a window. The children said their mother and another child were still in the house.

Due to the location of the fire, rescue personnel could not enter the home.

Once the fire was finally extinguished, police and firefighters went into the house and found the mother and her child dead. The deceased have been identified as 38 year old Michelle Diana Bixler and 16 year old Cheyenne Ruth Bixler both of Three Rivers.

The three surviving children were taken to Three Rivers Health where they were treated for minor injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
