(HOWARD TOWNSHIP) – One person was injured in a two vehicle crash in Cass County's Howard Township.
Sheriff Richard Behnke says at 3:13 PM Monday, 16 year old Taylor Young of Niles was at the stop sign on Terminal Road, preparing to turn north onto Barron Lake Road. Young was distracted by a telephone conversation she was having and failed to yield to a southbound vehicle driven by 55 year old Timothy Karns of Niles, who struck Young's vehicle on the driver's side.
Karn's passenger, 40 year old Laurie Bender of Niles, sustained minor injuries and was taken by SMACS Ambulance to Lakeland Hospital in Niles to be evaluated.
Behnke says all three individuals were wearing their safety belts. The Howard Township Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
