(BATAVIA TOWNSHIP) – A gas grill is being called the cause of a fire that destroyed two buildings Friday afternoon.

The Bronson Fire Department was dispatched to 665 Langwell Road in Batavia Township at 4:30 PM. Fire Chief Scott Wilber says they arrived and saw a 24 by 32 foot garage on fire, along with a 10 by 12 foot shed also burning. The flames were moving towards the outside wall of a house that was only 10 feet away.

Wilber says his crew started fighting the fires, and put out the flames that were moving up the side of the house. After two and a half hours, the fires were finally put out.

Both the garage and shed along with all of their contents, were called a total loss. Damage estimates stand at $28,000.

Wilber says the Union City Fire Department brought their tanker
for firefighters to use.
