COVID-19 Cases Increase In S. Michigan Over Weekend

(UNDATED) – More cases of COVID-19 have been reported over the weekend in Southern Michigan.

The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency says St. Joseph County has 14 new cases, which means 65 people have tested positive for coronavirus. There has been 1 death from the virus.

Branch County is reporting 3 new cases, which brings the total number of residents with coronavirus to 79. Two people have died from the virus in Branch County. Hillsdale County has 1 new case. That makes 152 individuals who have been diagnosed with COVID-19. There have been 21 deaths in Hillsdale County from coronavirus.

The Michigan Department of Corrections says another inmate at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater has died from the coronavirus. That means 19 inmates have died from the virus. No new cases of COVID-19 has been reported among the staff at Lakeland, which makes 34 staffers who have the virus. There are no new cases among the inmates, making 791 who have COVID-19.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says Cass County has 2 new cases, which makes 41 residents who have COVID-19 and 2 people who have died. Calhoun County has 6 new cases of coronavirus, which means 260 people have been diagnosed with the virus. There have also been 17 deaths. Kalamazoo County is reporting 28 new COVID-19 cases. That brings the total number of individuals who have tested positive to 601. There were 4 more deaths, which means 29 people have died.

Around Michigan, 812 new cases of COVID-19 were detected, which means 47,138 people have tested positive. There were also 158 more deaths in Michigan, bringing the total number of people who have passed away from the coronavirus to 4,551.
