More COVID-19 Cases Reported In Southern Michigan

(UNDATED) – State authorities are saying as of Monday, there are more cases of COVID-19 in Southern Michigan.

The Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency says there are no new cases of coronavirus in St. Joseph County. There are 65 people who have tested positive in the county and 1 person who has died.

Branch County has 1 new case, which means 80 residents have COVID-19. Two people have died from the virus in Branch County. Hillsdale County has no new cases, which makes 152 people with coronavirus. There was 1 new death for the county, which brings the number of people who have died from the virus to 22.

The Michigan Department of Corrections says no new cases of COVID-19 have been detected at the Lakeland Correctional Facility in Coldwater. 791 inmates and 34 staff members have coronavirus, and 19 inmates have died.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says Cass County has 1 new case of COVID-19. 42 residents have tested positive for the virus, and 2 people have died. Calhoun County is reporting 8 new cases of coronavirus, which brings the total number of residents with the virus to 268. There are 17 people who have died from coronavirus. Kalamazoo County has 21 new cases of COVID-19. That brings the total number of cases in the county to 622. There are 3 more people who have died in Kalamazoo County, which means 32 people have passed away.

Statewide, 414 new cases of COVID-19 are being reported, making 47,552 people have tested positive. There were also 33 deaths reported, which means 4,584 people who have died.

The Department of Health and Human Services also says as of May 8, there were 22,686 people who have recovered from COVID-19 in Michigan.
