By: Mike Stiles - Thursday, May 14, 2020

(CENTREVILLE) – There's been a recent increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in St. Joseph County.

Health officials say it's related to a Sturgis business.

During Wednesday's Executive Committee meeting of the St. Joseph County Commission, Rebecca Burns, Health Officer with the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency, shared that information. ...... {LISTEN}.

The name of the company has not been released.

Burns says nurses with the CHA have talked with employees of this company, some of them have shared that they think the coronavirus is a government conspiracy. Because of that, some employees who were contagious went to work and spread it to co-workers who contracted the virus and took it home.

Burns shared with the Commissioners early on that St. Joseph County was doing well. ...... {LISTEN}.

Burns told the Commissioners that once cases are identified, the CHA continues to call on them. They work with the individuals to find out who they have been in close contact with. That information goes into their electronic medical record, and they are called every day for two weeks to make sure they don't develop the coronavirus.
