Shoplifting Suspect Arrested In Three Rivers

(THREE RIVERS) – A man who allegedly shoplifted from a Three Rivers store was arrested when he returned to the scene of the crime.

Three Rivers Police were called to the Three Rivers Wal Mart Store just after 1 PM Tuesday. Employees spotted a man who was suspected of shoplifting at the store over the weekend.

Officers made contact with the suspect and escorted the 23 year old man to his vehicle, where he said he had identification. While at the vehicle, police ran the license plate and discovered it was stolen.

The suspect got into the vehicle and drove away from the officers, heading east on Millard Road towards U.S. 131. As the suspect tried to get onto U.S. 131, he crashed into another vehicle.

Police arrested the suspect on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, fleeing and eluding, obstruction, second degree retail fraud and absconding from parole. He was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.

Assisting were the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Department along with the Three Rivers and Fabius Park Fire Departments.
