(NOTTAWA TOWNSHIP) – A teen suffered life threatening injuries in a weekend incident involving a lawn mower.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says his deputies were called to an accident Monday at 10:45 AM in the 23,000 block of River Run Road in Nottawa Township.

Investigators say the victim, a 14 year old Sturgis boy, was mowing a steep embankment along the St. Joseph River. The lawn mower overturned, impaling the teen on the roll bar under the mower.

The boy was transported by West Michigan Air Care to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.

Assisting deputies were the Michigan State Police, the Centreville Fire Department and Life Care Ambulance.
