(STURGIS) – Sturgis Public Schools continues to work on their back to school plan for the 2020-21 school year.

School officials are hoping that by the time the new school year starts, students will be able to come back to their respective buildings for face to face instruction. But the district is also planning for if there has to be distance learning due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sturgis Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert says the reason the district's plan is taking a little bit longer is they want to make sure it's safe for the staff and students. Once the plan is completed, Ebert says parents will be able to look at it and will be asked to determine which option they want for their child or children. ...... {LISTEN}.

Ebert says another question the school district will need answered is how will the children be getting to the schools, by riding the buses or will they be brought to school?

Ebert says the need for substitute teachers is also going to be huge for Sturgis Schools. ...... {LISTEN}.

Sturgis Schools hope to reveal their plan to the community by July 20.
