(UNDATED) – A one vehicle crash sent an Elkhart man to the hospital.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office says 73 year old Donald Stachel was driving east on U.S. 20 west of County Road 23, at 7:30 PM Saturday. Witnesses say traffic slowed down for a vehicle that was turning, but Stachel failed to slow down.

Stachel crossed over the westbound lanes and ran off the north side of the road, striking a tree. He was taken to Goshen Hospital with cuts to his right leg, left foot, left hand and face. Stachel was wearing his safety belt.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.
