Petitions For Sturgis City Commission Due Today
By: Mike Stiles - Tuesday, July 21, 2020

(STURGIS) – Time is running out for anyone who wants to run for one of the five seats up for election on the Sturgis City Commission.

Nominating petitions are due by 4 PM today. 50 valid signatures are needed to submit the petition to Sturgis City Clerk Ken Rhodes.

Four incumbents on the City Commission are seeking re-election. Seeking another two year term is Commissioner At Large Jon Good. Also seeking re-election to four year terms are Commissioners Robert Hile from the Fourth Precinct; Rick Bir in the First Precinct and Travis Klinger in the Second Precinct.

Citizens will also be electing a new Third Precinct Commissioner to fill a vacancy left by Mark Dvorak, who stepped down from the Commission in April. Since the seat became available in the last six months of the term, the Commission had the option of filling it, or waiting for the next election.

The Commission voted unanimously to wait and have the seat filled in the November general election.

If you have any questions, you can call the Sturgis City Clerk's Office at 269-659-7229.
