Holcomb Issues Statewide Mask Mandate
By: Michael McIntyre/Mike Stiles - Friday, July 24, 2020

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb says starting July 27, the Hoosier State will be under a mandatory mask ordinance.

Masks will be required for anyone 8 years of age or older in public, including public outdoor areas, public transportation and when social distancing is not possible. Masks will be mandatory for all students in third grade and above. This also includes faculty, staff, volunteers and others who may be in school for any activity.

The order will have exceptions for medical purposes, exercising along with eating and drinking.

The Governor also added that not wearing a mask where it is required will be considered a Class B misdemeanor. Local governments may impose more restrictive guidelines.

The State will approach enforcement of the face covering requirement with an emphasis on education. However, Holcomb added the mask police will not be patrolling the streets.
