(UNDATED) – One person is behind bars following a weekend incident.

The LaGrange County Sheriff's Office was called to the West 1600 block of State Road 120 September 26 for an active domestic disturbance.

Deputies arrived and spoke with all parties involved. After speaking to everyone, deputies found that 55 year old Alfred Mathes of New Paris struck his wife and would not let her leave the area. When she called the police for assistance, Mathes grabbed the phone and would not allow her to speak to the authorities.

Mathes was arrested on charges of domestic battery, criminal confinement, interference with reporting a crime and disorderly conduct.
