(STURGIS) – A long time Sturgis business will be closing their doors this fall.

In a media release Wednesday, Kroger's Central Division announced the decision to close its store in Sturgis. Eric Halvorson, Kroger spokesperson says company leaders attribute the decision to the store's financial performance. In spite of the associates' best efforts, Halvorson says the Sturgis store has not operated profitably for several years and research indicates a turnaround is not realistic.

Cathi Abbs, Executive Director of the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce says this was tough news to hear, and especially so for the Kroger employees. ...... {LISTEN}.

Halvorson says severance will be offered to qualified associates based on their length of service with the company. The store will close in approximately 60 days. Division leaders want to allow associates as much time as possible to find other employment.
