Several People Charged For Acts Of Terrorism

(LANSING) – Several people, both in Michigan and around the United States, have been arrested related to acts of terrorism under a Michigan state law.

Thursday afternoon, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced the arrests, following a joint investigation between the Michigan State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. Nessel says after months of work, arrest warrants were executed Wednesday night both in Michigan and in other states.

Seven of the individuals arrested are known to be members of the militia group, Wolverine Watchmen, or associates of the group. The suspects are alleged to have asked the groups' members to identify the home addresses of law enforcement officers in order to target them; make threats of violence to instigate a civil war leading to societal collapse and engaged in the planning and training for an operation to attack the Michigan Capitol building and kidnap government officials, including Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Six individuals were also charged by the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan with separate federal felony charges as a result of the execution of the warrants.
