(STURGIS) – A former Sturgis school building will be seeing new life.

Monday night, the Sturgis Board of Education was presented with two offers to purchase Park School. Sturgis Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert says the building was constructed in 1922, but has not been used for classes in many years. It has been a storage facility for school related items.

Ebert says the School District tried to sell Park School several years ago but there was no interest. Recently, a local individual contacted Ebert about purchasing the building. Ebert says they let the public know the District was entertaining offers and a second one came in.

Ebert says the Finance Committee met and felt comfortable bringing the offers to the Board of Education. Ebert shares what the first offer is. ...... {LISTEN}.

This individual would work with and highlight local vendors.

Ebert says the second individual would turn the building into something else. ...... {LISTEN}.

Ebert says the School District is not just looking to make money on this sale, but to make sure it's about enhancing the community.

The Board made a motion to accept the first offer of $17,500, and approved it by a vote of 6-1. Ebert says he doesn't have a timeline on when the new business would open, but he did say the new owners want to move quickly to begin renovations.
