(PARK TOWNSHIP) – One person is behind bars following a pursuit over the weekend.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says his department attempted to check a suspicious vehicle at 1:10 PM Sunday on Carpenter Road near Heimbach Road in Park Township. The vehicle took off going south on Carpenter Road with deputies in pursuit.

Officers followed the vehicle to the area of South Fisher Lake where the driver pulled over and surrendered. It was determined the automobile was not registered or insured.

The driver, a 54 year old Three Rivers man, was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding police along with operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

Michigan State Police assisted deputies at the scene.
