MHSAA Says Fall Sports Will Conclude

(EAST LANSING) – The 2020 Fall sports season will come to a conclusion in Michigan.

Friday afternoon, Michigan High School Athletic Association Executive Director Mark Uyl held a press conference, following the one held by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The biggest news according to Uyl was the announcement that the three remaining Fall tournaments would be able to finish. ...... {LISTEN}.

The MDHHS plans to provide expanded rapid testing availability to schools that have teams and individuals participating in the tournaments. There would be no cost to the schools for these tests.

Practices for those teams and individuals in the post season would begin the week of December 21. The football playoffs would resume on January 2 with Regional finals in 11 man football and Semifinals in 8 man. The 8 man State finals would be on January 9, along with the 11 man semifinals. The 11 man State finals would be January 15 and 16. All semifinal games would be played at home sites.

The volleyball tournaments will resume with quarterfinals on January 5. The semifinals and finals would be January 7 through the 9 at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek.

The girls swimming and diving finals would be January 15 and 16. Diving would be January 15 and swimming on January 16.

Uyl did say that fans would not be allowed to attend any of the remaining post season contests.

He also said the MHSAA Representative Council would meet next week to discuss the start and length of the Winter sports seasons.
