(CONSTANTINE TOWNSHIP) – A northeast Indiana man is in custody after a police pursuit.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says just before 11 PM Monday deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding near the intersection of Dickinson and Burke Roads in Constantine Township. The vehicle drove away, but stopped near the intersection of Burke and Miller Roads.

After the pursuit, deputies found a shotgun. The driver of the vehicle, a 53 year old Howe man, admitted to having the shotgun because he was going to use it to intimidate the family of his fiance.

The man was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail and is being held on charges of fleeing and eluding police, resisting and obstructing police, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon; possession of a firearm while intoxicated; operating while intoxicated second offense and driving while license suspended.

Assisting deputies were the White Pigeon Police Department and the Michigan State Police.
