(STURGIS) – No injuries were reported in a weekend house fire in Sturgis.

Saturday, the Sturgis Fire Department was dispatched to the 500 block of East Hatch Street due to smoke coming from an unoccupied residence.

The first arriving units found a single family house with heavy smoke coming from the inside. Firefighters were able to locate and extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading further in the residence.

Strudwick says the cause of the fire is unknown, and the investigation into its origin will be handled by the Sturgis Fire Marshall.

Assisting at the scene was the Sturgis Police Department, the Sturgis Electric Department, Life Care Ambulance and Michigan Gas.
