Sturgis City Commission Votes To Keep Meeting Virtually
By: Mike Stiles - Thursday, March 25, 2021

(STURGIS) – The Sturgis City Commission will continue meeting virtually for the foreseeable future.

During Wednesday's meeting the Sturgis City Commission was presented with a resolution that declares a local state of emergency to allow for the meetings to continue virtually.

Sturgis City Manager Mike Hughes explains why the resolution was created. ...... {LISTEN}.

Hughes says the current gatherings in mass order doesn't allow for more than 25 people to be in attendance at a Commission meeting. By continuing to meet virtually, there is no limit to how many people may attend a meeting.

City Attorney Roger Bird says if approved, the resolution would allow the City Commission to meet virtually until August 31. It also allows the Commission to rescind the resolution if the Commission is allowed to meet in person and can allow more people to attend, or they can extend the date, if circumstances change.

The Commission unanimously approved the resolution.
