(CENTREVILLE) – There will be no tuition increase at Glen Oaks Community College for the 2021-22 school year.

During Thursday's Glen Oaks Board of Trustees meeting, the tuition and fee schedule was presented for a vote. After being reviewed by the Board's Finance Committee, the final recommendation was to keep the tuition rate flat, drop the $25 distance learning course fee and to implement a technology fee of $9 per contact hour. This recommendation was based on the instructional changes brought on by COVID-19.

Glen Oaks President Dr. David Devier says based on those instructional changes, school leaders truly believe there will never be as much face to face instruction as before. Overall, the removal of the distance learning fee and the addition of the technology fee will amount to approximately a 3.3 percent increase.

While many students are ready to be back to class in person, Glen Oaks says they serve a number of different populations. A segment of the school's students have gained a comfort level with and prefer the on line formats. Typically these are the adult students who are trying to work around jobs, childcare and family issues.

In other business, the Glen Oaks Board of Trustees approved changes to the 2022-23 and the 2023-24 college calendars.

The Board also approved a new program offering; an Associate of Science in Computer Information Systems, along with a number of other computer program curriculum changes.
