(GARRETT) – Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a drowning that occurred Sunday afternoon in DeKalb County.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says first responders were called at 1:24 PM to the 900 block of County Road 64 and a private lake at Indian Springs Campground. They were told a 30 year old man was swimming and started to struggle, and then went under the water and never resurfaced.

SCUBA divers from the Steuben County Underwater Rescue and Recovery Team were able to locate the man just after 3 PM. His name has not been released pending the notification of family members.

Assisting at the scene were the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, the Garrett Police and Fire Departments, the Auburn, Fremont and Angola Fire Departments and the DeKalb County Coroner's Office.

Conservation officers would like to remind everyone that goes out swimming or is near the water, to always wear a personal flotation device.
