(STURGIS) – A mixed use development plan for a portion of downtown Sturgis was presented to the City Commission during their meeting Wednesday night.

John Carmichael, President of Root and Branch Real Estate shared with the Commissioners his idea for a project that he has been working on and researching for over a year. The project would be on the site of 108 to 114 West Chicago Road, which are the sites for Sportsarama, Mike's Pizza and Subs and the former China Garden Restaurant. Carmichael says those buildings would be knocked down and a new one constructed. ...... {LISTEN}.

Carmichael explains the significance of this project for Sturgis. ...... {LISTEN}.

The total cost of the project would be $9.1 million to demolish the buildings and put up the new structure. Carmichael says he's been working on getting funding from investors and other sources. Part of the funding would hopefully come from the City, at approximately $400,000. That would be the same amount it would cost Sturgis to demolish those buildings if they were to have it done.

The City will discuss the matter more and their possible participation during their January 26 meeting.
