(CENTREVILLE) – Plans to bring a CTE millage request to St. Joseph County voters is moving forward.
Monday afternoon the St. Joseph County Intermediate School District Board of Education voted 4-0 to proceed with the millage request and have it on the November 2019 ballot. ISD Board President Elizabeth O'Dell says ISD Superintendent Dr. Teresa Belote spoke to all of the nine school districts in the County and none of them said no to the proposed millage. She said they also heard from community members, some of whom were favor of the millage and others who were not.
The millage is asking for one mill for ten years. Money raised from this millage, if it passes, would be used for programming and equipment, not a CTE facility. It would also help the local school districts, who have been funding CTE programming from their general funds.
O'Dell says it's time for the tax payers to decide if the children of St. Joseph County should have the resources they need to be successful. She says millages are hard but this is for our children.
ISD Superintendent Dr. Teresa Belote says the next several months will be spent in answering questions about the millage so people understand exactly what they will be asked to vote for this fall.
