(LAGRANGE) - Longtime LaGrange businesswoman and booster Estella Mae Carney died Sunday at Miller’s Merry Manor in LaGrange. She was 86.

Carney and her husband, Sam, who died in 2010, resurrected and renovated numerous properties in LaGrange, including the family business, Carney Decorating Center, Valley Line Train Depot, Masonic Lodge, the Brickhouse Inn, and the house now housing Agape Missions. They also owned two bed and breakfasts.

They cared for the numerous flower planters throughout downtown LaGrange and spearheaded the effort to save the original brick streets downtown.

Together, Estella and Sam were named LaGrange County Citizens of the Year in 2003.

A celebration of life service will be Thursday, May 30th from 4 to 7 PM at the LaGrange American Legion Post. Memorials can be made to the ARK Animal Sanctuary.
