(NEWBERG TOWNSHIP) – A three vehicle crash Tuesday in Cass County's Newberg Township sent two people to area hospitals.

Sheriff Richard Behnke says his deputies were sent to M-60 between M-40 and Wood Lake Road just after 9 AM. Initial investigation shows a west bound tractor-trailer, driven by 52 year old James Motycka of Vicksburg, struck a vehicle that was turning left in front of him. The impact pushed the car into oncoming traffic, striking an east bound automobile.

The driver of the first vehicle struck, 69 year old Laurene Preis of Marcellus, was flown by Med Flight to a Kalamazoo hospital to be treated for her injuries.

The driver of the east bound car, 42 year old Jennifer Jercha of Jones, was taken by Marcellus Ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.

Motycka was not injured in the incident.

All drivers were wearing their safety belts at the time of the crash. Airbags did activate in the vehicles.

Assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police, the Newberg Fire and Ambulance, Life Care Ambulance and the Michigan Department of Transportation.
