Sturgis Man Arraigned On Open Murder Charge
By: Mike Stiles - Friday, May 24, 2019

(STURGIS) – A 35 year old Sturgis man has been arrested after authorities found a female body in his apartment.

Director Of Public Safety Geoffrey Smith says at 11:10 PM on May 22, Sturgis Police were dispatched to the 200 block of North Maple Street following an anonymous tip that a man was keeping the body of a woman in his apartment. Officers made contact with the man and were given consent to search the residence.

Police found evidence that led to the activation of the St. Joseph County Major Crimes Task Force, who then executed a search warrant at the home. The man was arrested and charged with open murder, dismemberment of a corpse and failure to report a death.

St. Joseph County District Court officials say the suspect, 35 year old Wade Allen, was arraigned Thursday and was denied bond.

Smith says Sturgis Police continue to investigate this case and are withholding the name of the victim until next of kin has been notified.

Allen will have a pre-trial conference on June 4 and a preliminary hearing on June 11.
