(STURGIS) – Once again the citizens of St. Joseph County responded to a need.

Thursday, May 23 was the tenth annual Super Hits 99.3, WBET Radiothon to support the St. Joseph County United Way. Just before midnight, United Way Executive Director Kelly Hostetler shared that during the 18 hours of the Radiothon, $97,556 was raised.

Celebrity DJ teams competed against each other to see who could raise the most money during their hour on the air. The winning team was awarded a pewter microphone trophy. This year, the team of Ryan Worth and Teanna Sampson from Morgan Olson raised $37,074, making them the Celebrity DJ's of the Year. It's the second straight year they have won the award.

The team of Karin Zona, Cassandra Kelly and T.J. Reed came in second, raising $24,577 while the Sturgis Elks Activity Club raised $20,115 and finished in third place.

Throughout the day people could call and make pledges, bid on instant prize items and in addition make bids on items in the silent auction.

A raffle was held for a 6 foot by 12 foot trailer, donated by Interstate Trailer. Ticket sales for the trailer brought in $5,937, and all of it was donated to the St. Joseph County Animal Control Shelter project.

Hostetler thanked everyone who donated during the Radionthon, saying their contributions make a difference in St. Joseph County to the over 40 agencies the United Way supports.

Hostetler also thanked her staff, United Way Board members and others who volunteered during the Radiothon.
