(ALGANSEE TOWNSHIP) – Three children are dead following a collision between a horse drawn buggy and a pick up.
Michigan State Police say the crash occurred Friday around 6 PM in Branch County's Algansee Township. A south bound pick up on Kelly Road rear ended the buggy. Two adults and 5 children were ejected from the buggy. Two children, ages 6 and 2, were pronounced dead at the scene. A 4 year old child, suffered life threatening injuries, and later died.
An adult female in the buggy also sustained serious injuries.
Troopers say 21 year old Tyler Frye of Angola was arrested on three counts of operating under the influence of liquor causing death; two counts of operating under the influence of liquor causing serious injury and one count of felony firearms.
He was arraigned on Saturday and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
The injured occupants of the buggy were taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne and Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
The matter remains under investigation. Assisting at the scene were the Quincy Fire Department, Life Care Ambulance, West Michigan Air Care and Samaritan Helicopter.
