(THREE RIVERS) – An investigation into drug trafficking has landed two people in jail.
Three Rivers Police were following leads on their investigation at 4:45 AM Tuesday when they saw the target vehicle enter the drive of a hotel on Broadway Street, followed by a second car with Indiana license plates. A short time later, the second vehicle left and was stopped on U.S. 131.
K-9 Officer Django was brought to the vehicle, where he alerted to narcotics and the car was searched. The male driver was arrested for a CCW violation, possession of drug equipment and moving vehicle violations.
Officers obtained information from the man that led them to a specific hotel room and the target of the investigation.
As officers were obtaining a search warrant, the fugitive was seen leaving the hotel. Police attempted to stop the SUV, but the driver sped away, heading west into Cass County. The vehicle eventually stopped and police arrested the female driver.
K-9 Officer Jake searched the SUV and indicated there were drugs in the vehicle. Officers searched the automobile and located two ounces of marijuana, fentanyl and approximately two pounds of crystal meth with a street value of $90,000 in a back pack.
The two suspects are being held without bond. Assisting in the investigation were the Constantine Police and Cass County Sheriff's Departments along with Michigan State Police.
