(COLDWATER) – Sentence has been handed down to a Bronson man for leading police on a high speed chase through two states in January.
Branch County Circuit Court officials say 43 year old Scott Calloway was given a sentence Monday of between 38 and 60 months in prison on a charge of third degree fleeing from a police officer. In addition, he was sentenced to between 29 and 48 months for assault with a deadly weapon, which was his car. The sentences will be served concurrently.
Calloway plead guilty to both counts, and the Branch County Prosecutor's Office dismissed two other charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
The incident started at 10 AM January 8 when Angola Police were checking on a suspicious vehicle at the Williams Street Apartments. Officers arrived and saw another vehicle running with two people inside. When police asked for identification, a woman got out of the vehicle while the man, later identified as Calloway, drove away.
Officers followed the vehicle north through Angola and into Fremont, where Fremont Police joined the chase. Calloway then entered Michigan where more police agencies joined in.
The pursuit lasted almost 42 minutes through Hillsdale and Branch Counties before Calloway left the road and wrecked the car in a field on Southern Road in Branch County.
