(STURGIS) – The Sturgis Board of Education has heard from two organizations that could help them in their search for a new superintendent.

Following their regular meeting Monday evening, the Board held a work session where they spoke with representatives who's groups have a vast amount of experience in helping school districts find and hire superintendents.

The Board first heard from Denny Patzer with the Michigan Association Of School Boards. Among all of the information he shared including what MASB would do if hired by Sturgis, Patzer emphasized that each school district needs to find the right person for them. ...... {LISTEN}.

Also presenting to the Board was Gary Rider of Michigan Leadership Institute. Like Patzer, Rider told the School Board that they have to hire the person they feel is right for them as a superintendent.

Rider says the Board should have community input during the process, but the decision on who to hire rests with them. ...... {LISTEN}.

Both Patzer and Rider say they will be with the School Board through the whole process, and will also be available for the Board and the new Superintendent for one year after a new person has been hired.

Board President Ann Bird says because some members were not at the meeting, she would like them to go over the information from each company before a decision is made on who to hire.
