LaGrange Co. Commission Recommends Pay Raises
Tuesday Aug 08, 2017 9:41am
LaGrange, IN

By: Tim Murray

(LAGRANGE) – The LaGrange County Commissioners recommended a three percent pay raise for county employees Monday morning.

That recommendation goes to the County Council which will decide pay at budget time.

The Commissioners also endorsed a wage committee’s recommendation to grant larger increases to some elected officials and department heads.

The committee felt the increases were needed to help bring LaGrange County wages closer to those of similar nearby counties.

If the County Council concurs, those officials getting extra raises next year could include the auditor and her chief deputy, the assessor, the building and zoning administrator, the maintenance director, the highway engineer, and the information-technology director and his assistant.

Commissioner Terry Martin said he realizes there could be some grumbling about why those positions were chosen first, but he added the county cannot afford to raise the pay of all department heads at one time. He said the others will be considered in subsequent years.

The exact amount of those increases will be determined by the County Council.
