(CENTREVILLE) – It was a history making year for the St. Joseph County United Way.

During Tuesday's Victory Celebration to wrap up Campaign 2018, Honorary Campaign Co-Chairs Brad Balk and Mark Lillywhite announced that the United Way collected $1,034,573. That's 13.5 percent over their approved goal of $911,000.

Most of the funds collected by the United Way comes through payroll deductions. For the most recent campaign, 32.8 percent of the total came from Leadership Givers, which are people who pledge to give at least $1,000. There were 153 leadership givers for Campaign 2018.

United Way Executive Director Kelly Hostetler says special events accounted for $340,685 of the total, or 32.9 percent. She shares some of the different events the United Way held and why they do them. ...... {LISTEN}.

Hostetler is quick to say the money raised during each campaign goes right back to St. Joseph County in many different ways. ...... {LISTEN}.

Hostetler says people can direct where they want their donations to go, whether it's to the General Fund, or to a specific fund that the United Way uses to help organizations.

Also during Tuesday's Victory Celebration, the co-chairs for Campaign 2019 were announced. They are Jamie and Lynn Lego and Scott and Natalie Boland.
