Update On Three Rivers School Closure
Saturday Mar 10, 2018 8:28am
Three Rivers, MI

(THREE RIVERS) – Three Rivers Community Schools has released more information on the incidents that led to the closure of the District on Friday.

Thursday afternoon, Three Rivers High School received three different tips via Ok2Say about potential threats towards the District. Interim Superintendent Rob Kuhlman says on Friday in collaboration with the Three Rivers Police and the St. Joseph County Prosecutor, the School's Threat Assessment Team met and reviewed each of the threats independently.

The process includes working through a comprehensive set of questions designed to determine each threat level. Two of the threats were considered low level, and the recommended response includes contacting parents or guardians of the students and following disciplinary procedures outlined in the handbook.

A third threat was deemed a high level threat by both the Police and the High School Administration. As a result, this threat is being referred to the Prosecutor's Office. The school will also follow discipline procedures as per the code of conduct policy.

Kuhlman says the Three Rivers School District takes all threats seriously, and will continue to work with the Police Department to ensure the continued safety of the students and staff. He says the District is confident that the events from March 8 are being addressed appropriately and that students and staff are safe to return to school on Monday.

Kuhlman says if a students has communicated to their parent or guardian feelings of anxiousness or concern about their safety at school, please contact your child's principal, guidance counselor or behavioral interventionist for further assistance.
