(CENTREVILLE) – St. Joseph County Central Dispatch's millage proposal passed on Tuesday by 41 votes.

According to unofficial numbers presented by St. Joseph County Clerk Lindsay Oswald, only 6.2 percent of the registered voters in the County went to the polls, with 2,687 votes cast in the proposal out of 43,311 registered voters.

1,364 voted Yes for the 911 proposal and 1,323 voted No. The proposal was asking for the 911 millage to be increased from .75 mills to 1 mill. The .75 mills was the original millage amount from when the first 911 millage was presented and approved in 1990.

Central Dispatch Director Dennis Brandenburg says equipment at the 911 Center will be updated, along with getting new radios for all police, fire and EMS departments in the County.

Two other elections were held on Tuesday. Voters in the White Pigeon School District voted 293-165 to renew an 18 mill levy on all second homes and commercial property for a period of six years from 2019 to 2024. The levy will generate $2.6 million in 2019.

The money raised would go towards day to day operations in the school district, including utilities, maintaining facilities, transportation, among other items.

Residents of White Pigeon Township voted down a proposed 2 mill increase for general township operating purposes 257 No to 143 Yes. The levy would have been for ten years from 2018 through 2027 and if approved, would have raised approximately $390,000 in its first year.
