(STURGIS) – The search will begin soon for someone to represent the Second Precinct on the Sturgis City Commission.

In a letter sent to Mayor Robert Hile and City Manager Mike Hughes, Ina Taulbee announced that has resigned effective immediately as a member of the City Commission. In the letter, Taulbee says over the last few months, the Commission has been tasked with making a decision about medical marijuana. She says due to the sensitivity of this topic, it has brought about a great deal of negative interaction and she does not want that kind of stress in her life.

Hile says even after a recall effort against Taullbee was voted down earlier this week, he was still surprised that she resigned. ...... {LISTEN}.

Taulbee has been a City Commissioner since 2007. In her letter, she says it has been an honor and a pleasure to represent her constituents, and she has always given her best to be the majority voice of her precinct.

Hile says Taulbee was someone who was always ready to help her fellow Commissioners and the public. ...... {LISTEN}.

Hile says the City Commission must officially accept Taulbee's letter of resignation, which will be brought before them during their meeting on June 13. From there, the position will be posted and residents of the Second Precinct who are interested in finishing the final two years of her term may apply.

After a set time, the Commission will interview the applicants and then appoint someone to finish Taulbee's term.
