(UNDATED) – St. Joseph County residents on Tuesday voted to renew a county wide millage for seniors, and approve a new millage for a school district.

By a better than two to one margin, voters approved the renewal of the Commission On Aging Millage, with 13,894 Yes votes to 5,792 No votes. The renewal will allow for the continuation of senor services around the County.

Voters in the Nottawa Community School District approved a sinking fund millage request 255 Yes to 174 No. The request was for 1.5 mills for 10 years. Money raised from the millage will be used in three specific areas: improving safety and security; replacing and updating technology; and repairing and improving the school.

Other millage requests were also presented to voters on Tuesday. In the Village of Centreville, voters approved an operating millage request of 2 mills to purchase fire equipment along with maintaining and operating the Village Fire Department. It passed 320 Yes votes to 155 No votes.

In White Pigeon Township, voters approved two millage requests. One was for .75 mills for 5 years for road improvements in the township, which passed 764 Yes votes to 560 No votes. In addition, Township residents also approved an emergency services millage, asking for .75 mills for 5 years to provide additional funding for fire protection and other emergency services in the township.

That was passed 753 Yes votes to 569 No votes.
