Sturgis bowling teams compete at two tournaments

(UNDATED) – It was a busy weekend for the Sturgis bowling teams. On Saturday, the Sturgis boys participated at the Zeeland Invitational. The Trojans qualified 9th and faced the 8th seeded Muskegon Reeths-Puffer team in the round of 16 and won. Then in the quarterfinals match, the Trojans fell to No. 1 seed Grand Haven. On Sunday, both teams were in Jackson for the Mel Wolfe Open. The Sturgis girls finished 23rd in the qualifying round. They were led by Janea Baumeister who had a two game series of 279. Kaitlin Coker shot a 250 series. The Sturgis boys qualified 8th on the day. In the quarterfinals, Sturgis beat No. 1 seed Holt and then in the semifinals, they fell to No. 5 seed Midland to finish fourth on the day. Leading the Trojans in the quarterfinals were Christian Quirin (197) and Jayden Chapman (188). In the semifinals, Quirin (180) and Collin Claar (168) had the high games for the Trojans.
