Michigan women top Penn State 66-62

(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - The University of Michigan women's basketball team fell behind by four points with 3:23 to go, but ended the game on a 10-2 run behind six points from freshman Naz Hillmon and four from senior Nicole Munger to record a 66-62 win over Penn State on Sunday afternoon at the Bryce Jordan Center. Penn State grabbed a 60-56 lead with 3:23 remaining but Michigan never wavered. Hillmon made good on a pair of free throws with 2:55 on the clock and then converted a layup to tie the game at 60 at the 2:26 mark. Hillmon continued to be a force after getting fouled on a defensive rebound, sending her to the line where she converted another pair with 2:14 to go for a 62-60 Michigan lead. Michigan got two stops on the defensive end and Munger corralled a rebound with five ticks left. She calmly headed to the line and made the game a two-possession contest at 66-62. Penn State's final triple fell off the rim and Michigan left Happy Valley with its fourth straight win. Sophomore Hailey Brown hit a career-best six three-pointers in the contest, finishing with 20 points and six rebounds. Hillmon tallied her second straight double-double, going for 20 points and 11 rebounds, with sophomore Deja Church chipping in 10 points. Munger had nine points and five rebounds, as senior Hallie Thome had seven rebounds and six assists. Michigan improves to 16-9 overall and 7-4 in the Big Ten while Penn State drops to 10-13, 3-9 in the conference.
