(ALGANSEE TOWNSHIP) – Investigators say a barn fire in Branch County's Algansee Township is believed to have started from a wood burning stove.

The Quincy Fire Department was called out to a fire at 7:40 Monday morning on Colvin Road south of Warren Road. Quincy Fire Chief Mike Sherman says his department and the Coldwater Fire Department arrived and found a 1,500 square foot Amish barn consumed in flames. The Lakeland and Fremont Fire Departments were called in to provide mutual aid.

Crews were able to put out the fire in about an hour, and saved two other nearby buildings, including a house just ten feet away from the barn. Firefighters remained on scene until 10 AM to put out hot spots and try to determine the fire's origin.

The barn is considered a total loss. Damage estimates are not available and there were no injuries.
