(BATAVIA TOWNSHIP) – A fire Tuesday afternoon destroyed a Batavia Township home.

The Bronson Fire Department was called to a fire at 335 West Barnhart Road just after 4 PM. Fire Chief Scott Wilber says a one story ranch house had fire coming out from all of the windows. The Coldwater, Colon, Sherwood and Union City Fire Departments were called in to help battle the blaze. The windy conditions hindered the firefighters and drove the fire through the house.

The fire was finally put out after five hours. Wilber says it's believed that an electrical short in the attic started the fire. Damage estimates stand at $600,000 for the house and its contents. No injuries were reported.
