(FREMONT) – The National Weather Service has confirmed that an F1 tornado touched down in Fremont early Monday morning.

Officials say the tornado first appeared just west of I-69 near State Road 127 and tracked east, hitting the former Country Meadows Golf Course and causing extensive tree damage along with destroying a barn just west of Fremont.

The twister then turned right and went through Fremont just south of State Road 127, snapping trees and damaging the roofs of several structures. It continued heading east and southeast across mainly open fields, doing more damage to trees and buildings, including several outbuildings on a farm south of Clear Lake.

The tornado continued moving toward the Indiana-Ohio State Line before dissipating in an open field. Officials say it tracked about 10 miles from the time it touched down to the time it vanished.
